In celebration of International Women’s day, throughout this week, we’ll be talking to women from different areas of sport and fitness in our #ladieswho series.
Today’s series is on #LadiesWhoLift. We talk to three amazing women who have fallen in love with weightlifting and find what sparks their passion, keeps them motivated and how they got into this predominantly male discipline.
This is Jess’ story:

I decided to start weight lifting to reduce my stress levels and change my mind set which gave me a much more positive outlook.
My body began to feel much healthier, stronger and energetic, which resulted in weight lifting becoming a part of my day to day routine.
Once my training became consistent, I began to pay an interest in my strength and overall body composition, which gave me the motivation to train harder, taught me discipline and improved my state of mind.
My favourite exercise is the front squat, I don’t know why I just love practising it! My PB is 67.5kg which is more than my body weight so I can’t complain! However my back squat PB sounds more impressive at 113.5 kg 😀
My tips for new lifters would be to learn the correct techniques before increasing the weight and to just remember to keep it fun!
