In celebration of Women’s History Month, throughout March, we’ll be talking to women from different areas of sport and fitness in our #ladieswho series.
This week’s series is on #LadiesWhoFootball. We talk to three amazing ladies who’ve fallen in love with playing football find out what makes them so passionate about the beautiful game.
I started playing football when I was six and joined my first team, Tipton Town Boys.
When I was younger, all my friends were boys and they were constantly playing football at lunchtime so I joined them. I got better and better as I got older and then it hit the cut off point for me to play football with the boys team, I was too old, so I moved on to a girls team. Whilst playing for them , I got scouted by Wolverhampton and played for them until I got badly injured and went back to my first team until I was 16. I then successfully trialled for WBA FC. Unfortunately, I got injured again, so I left and joined my local women’s team.
I love it because I’m very competitive and I like to be in a team where everyone is working towards the same goal. I like the social aspect of it as well because you get to meet and play with like minded people. When I play football it makes me forget about any stress or worries I’ve had throughout the day. Within that 90 mins all that matters is what’s going on on the pitch.
Football is something you do if you love it. You’ve got to have a passion for it!
