The arena at UB Sport & Fitness will be host to its first ever netball showcase, a partnership event with local Superleague champions, Wasps. On the 24th March, netball fans will get the chance to watch the stars of the future in action at the academy showcase, featuring games between the team’s under 15s, under 17s, under 19s and under 21s.
The University of Birmingham’s partnership with Wasps includes both the university team and Wasps teams being coached by the same Head Coach, and sharing UB Sport & Fitness as their training venue, so the showcase event will be a home from home for Wasps. Both Wasps and Thunder are both currently unbeaten in this year’s Vitality Netball Superleague, and many of the academy players on display could be seen in their Superleague line-ups in years to come. The under 19 and under 21 matches are highly-anticipated Premier League clashes, so promise to be thrilling games to watch.
Included in the U21 line up will be Fran Williams, Ashleigh Dekker and Hannah Leighton, all UBSport scholars and members of the University’s first team.
The new Sport & Fitness arena, which can hold up to 800 spectators, will kick off proceedings with the under 15s clash at 1pm and followed by the under 19s at 2.30pm. Wasps’ under 17 team, currently enjoying a four-game winning streak, get underway at 4.10pm before the under 21s round things off at 5.40pm.
