2016/17 Club Members
Dodgeball is a sport for everyone; try out to play in one of our four men’s or three women’s teams, or just play for fun, it’s up to you! Dodgeball is a growing sport played worldwide, with the second ever World Cup being held at Madison Square Garden in 2018. Teams are made up of six players, with matches divided into games lasting three minutes. The objective is to have the most players left on court by the end. Lions Dodgeball has enjoyed great success over the years in numerous leagues and opens. Our Women’s 1st team is the highest ranking university team in the country, having won the University Championships in 2016 for the third year in a row. They also compete in the Women’s Dodgeball Premier League and made it through to the National Championships in June 2017. We are the only club in the country to have three women’s teams competing in leagues, with our 2nd and 3rd teams both competing in the National League North last season. The Men’s 1st team finished in third place in the University Premier League, and the Men’s 2nd team finished in sixth, making them the highest ranked men’s university 2nd team. The Men’s 3rd’s competed in the University League North, and the 4th team regularly play in open tournaments.
International trials are held annually, meaning there is a chance to play for your country, as many of our current squad members and alumni currently do! The club also has two weekly social training sessions, giving everyone the opportunity to get involved. The club was set up as the “Raptors” in 2010 by Murray Schofield, who gives his name to one of our four houses, also named after original members: Schofield, Barnes, Bentley and Philp. Each member is assigned a house, and points can be earned at our social sessions with an overall winning house awarded the House Shield at our annual end of year ball. As well as this, we hold weekly socials, with everything from pub quizzes and Sports Nights at the Guild, to sober socials such as trampoline dodgeball and meals out. Anyone interested is welcome to come along to a session and give it a go; we love having new members. So get some balls and come play!
