The club has close links with Birmingham Fencing Club, sharing some training sessions with them, enabling us to have access to their best fencers and resources.
We offer all 3 weapons for training and competitions and all kit is supplied by the club, unless you prefer to bring your own. Currently we have 1 Womens team who are currently in Midlands 1A, as well as 2 Mens teams: Mens 1st is currently in Midlands 1A, our development team Mens 2nd is currently in Midlands 2B. We’re always eager to teach new people and everyone involved in coaching is extremely welcoming to Fencers of all abilities so whether you’re an experienced Fencer or you’ve never held a sword in your life there’s a place for you at UoB Fencing.
How to get into Fencing
Complete beginner, intermediate to potential Olympian, the University of Birmingham Fencing Club can cater for you. The Fencing club is a warm, vibrant community accepting anyone and everyone into our ranks. Whether you want to fence recreationally as social sport, want to try out for our teams and represent the University, or try something new, we are the club for you. On Mondays, our coaches introduce beginners to the basic concepts of fencing and the different styles/weapons, as well as providing a space for the more advanced fencers to brush up on their skills by fencing one another. On Tuesdays, we team up with Birmingham Fencing Club, to give our advanced fencers more opponents to choose from and access to more weapon specialist coaches. Come and try the sport for the first two weeks of Autumn Term, and experience a new sport, or keep doing the sport you love!
Please note that on top of the club fee there is a £16 fee that covers personal accident insurance when training or competing for the University, access to free cross-training sessions such as circuits and yoga, as well as a contribution to the costs of affiliation to various national governing bodies. This fee is only payable once so if you did decide to join a second club then you would not need to pay a second fee.
Taster session and/or trial information will be available soon.
