Club Members 2016/17
The University of Birmingham Handball Club is one of the youngest and most rapidly expanding teams recognised by UoB sport. Played by a group of complete beginners and experienced men and women, the team is united under a passion and enjoyment of the sport. Handball is an Olympic sport that is ever-growing at university level in the UK, often described as combining the best elements from football, basketball, and water polo. There were four sides in the last academic year (comprised of 2 men and 2 women’s teams) and we are always on the lookout for additional players, regardless of the experience they have; many of our current squad had little to no knowledge of the rules before developing through the sport to become fantastic players.
The club features in a highly competitive league and the University Championships where we finished runners-up in 2016, but also cultivates a lively, friendly social side as well. We regularly attend sports nights and have team socials that cater for everybody. So, whether you’re a complete novice or a euro superstar, don’t miss out on a great opportunity to try a rewarding and exciting sport!

The highlight of the year for the Handball club is the University Championships. All four teams band together to cheer, chant and show off their abilities to university teams from the rest of the UK. Any player, past or present, will tell of the experience being one to treasure. Last years championship saw the finals held in Kent and four teams travelled down together for a weekend of competition and socials. Socially, our House Golf event sees the members come together in a specific theme and spend the night travelling from house to house, completing a challenge as they go on. Ending the night at Fab.
