UoB student Eleanor Piper competed in the first leg of the Archery World Cup in Shanghai from 23 to 29 April. This was a massive event, comprising 91 recurve women from 28 countries worldwide. This was a brilliant achievement for Eleanor, who said:
‘It was a great experience to shoot in a massive arena against and alongside the top archers in the world!’
In the qualification round Eleanor placed in the top half of the field, coming an impressive 41st out of 91 archers. The GB recurve women’s team, formed of Eleanor and teammates Sarah Bettles and Bryony Pitman, competed incredibly well over the event and managed to secure an impressive 8th position overall, even managing to beat Japan, who were seeded above them in 7th!
Following this performance, Eleanor has also been selected to represent team GB at the second leg of the World Cup in Antalya later this month. She is hoping to be selected for the Berlin leg too which will take place in July, this selection would also see Eleanor qualify for the European Championships in Poland in August – such an exciting prospect.
