Cup Match Success for Women’s Football

The Women’s Football 2s were yet again hoping to maintain their so far unbeaten performance record. This week’s fixture was against Leicester University at home in the Cup competition.

Birmingham dominated play in the first half but struggled to convert this into any goals. Hannah Vincent was delivering brilliant set pieces which Holly Grimes and Lucy Stones were unfortunate to miss out on converting. Minnie Cruttwell was dominant on the right but was denied any goals, hitting the crossbar and the post during the game! Eventually, Chelsea Hunter scored the winning goal when the ball was cooly slotted into her path. She performed the perfect finish, putting pressure on Leicester with 10 minutes left to play. The opposition were unable to equalise in the time remaining, leaving Birmingham’s unbeaten record untarnished!

The girls showed the same fighting spirit throughout the game as they have done in every fixture this term. This victory was no mean feat and has ensured that the girls make up one of the 16 teams safely through to the next round of the Cup! The 2s have an excellent season ahead of them if they can continue this winning form.
