It was a largely successful Wednesday for the badminton teams both at home and away, with teams playing at Nottingham, Aston and Wolverhampton.
The Men’s 1s were unfortunate to be the only side to lose their fixture, with the University of Derby claiming a 5-3 victory. Derby had to fight hard at Sport & Fitness to get the win, with Jack Taylor losing the final game of his third set 27-25 in an exhausting match. The Women’s 1s also played at home, and played very well to secure a dominating 8-0 win over Sheffield Hallam.
The Women’s 2s travelled to Nottingham and picked up an impressive 6-2 win. Amy Gravett played particularly well, taking the Nottingham top seed to three sets. The Men’s 2s and 3s played in Aston and Wolverhampton respectively and both sides came away with clean sweep victories. Callum Cheung stepped in today for the 2s after a team member faced an injury and played very well to win both doubles games with Jamie Blair – ultimately helping the team to secure their 8-0 victory! Two freshers on the 3s, Tom Joy and Yu Xuanda, played very well together in their first matches, showcasing the strength in depth of the badminton club this season.
