University of Birmingham student athletes Sarah McDonald and Jonny Davies did Team GB proud last weekend at the New Balance Indoor Grand Prix (NBIGP) in Boston, both achieving some huge PBs.
The NBIGP at the Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Center saw Jonny run a massive PB of 7.50 in the 3k, giving him a qualifying time for the World Championships in March, and Sarah isn’t one to be left behind – running a 4 second indoor PB in the 1500m in 4.07.62. Sarah’s 5th place performance also saw her rise from 26th to 9th on the UK all-time indoor rankings for the women’s 1500m – an amazing achievement!
Both Jonny and Sarah’s awesome results are below the respective qualifying times for the World Indoor Championships in Birmingham this year, and Jonny will be competing at the British Senior Indoor Championships on 17 February to secure his spot in the 3000m – and where we will miss him as part of the squad heading to BUCS Nationals on the same weekend, we are extremely proud and can’t wait to see how he gets on in this key event in the athletics calendar. Sarah will be using the time to mentally prepare for the Commonwealth Games in Australia, in which she will be competing in a couple of month’s time.
