Following an impressive 5th place at the U20 Senior Inter-Counties Cross Country Championships at the weekend, first year sport scholar and Biomedical Material Science student Amelia Quirk was this week selected to represent Great Britain at the upcoming World Cross Country Championships (held in Aarhus, Denmark on 30 March) as part of a 6-strong senior women’s team.
Having already represented GB at a junior international level this cross-country season, at races such as the European Championships (where she lead the Junior Women’s team to Team Gold), Amelia turned 19 in December and subsequently moved out of the U20 category and into the senior one. This meant the BUCS XC silver medallist had to race 10k last weekend at the World Cross Country Trials against some of the country’s top senior talent to qualify for selection. Amelia placed 5th at the trials and the team selection was announced earlier today, confirming her selection to wear the GB vest for the first time as a senior, before even making it into her second year of university!
We will be keeping a close eye on Amelia’s progress through the University of Birmingham Athletics Club Twitter page, and wish her all the best for the Champs!
