In their first event of 2019, the University of Birmingham Swimming Club had some great performers, claiming several medals in a very successful weekend of competition.
The highlight of Saturday’s swimming was the Men’s 4x100m Freestyle relay team’s first place finish. Consisting of Filippo Dal Ben, Will Carter, Louis Allison and Steve Wilson, the boys swam exceptionally to bring home a gold medal in a tightly contested battle with a team from Rugby.
Lucy Hawley also medalled on Saturday, posting a four second personal best time in the 400m Individual Medley and coming 2nd. She had also swam in the 200m Breaststroke, placing just outside the finals in 9th.
Sian James (Backstroke), Lucy Clayton (Breaststroke), Phoebe Love (Butterfly) and Sarah Warwood (Free) competed in the Women’s 4x100m Medley, swimming fantastically and placing 4th.
Saturday also saw fine swims from Holly Hildrew, Charlotte Ibbeson and Sam Davies.
Sunday’s swimming also started very well, with Steve Wilson clinching his second gold of the weekend with a fantastic performance in the Men’s 50m Freestyle. The Women’s 50m Breaststroke was also fruitful for the UoB Swimming Club, as Lucy Clayton brilliantly claimed 1st place and Emma Smith posted an impressive personal best time.
Will Carter and Lucy Hawley also posted some very good swims on Sunday for the club.
