Taekwondo take home an enormous 8 medals

Taekwondo deliver yet again as they bring home eight medals from the BUCS Winter Championships in Nottingham

On Saturday morning, the 13 man strong team travelled to Nottingham to compete in the BUCS Winter Championships. There were some very strong performances on the day from all the competitors, which is a testament to not only the team’s hard work and perseverance but also the dedication and support from volunteers, coaches and spectators.

In the C class division, a great effort from all the Birmingham fighters gave them all valuable experience seeing as they were all relatively new to the sport and to competition. UoB had 5 WT fighters stepping into the ring with bronze medals won by Taran Chahal, Jack Wright and Haydn Price and a dominant gold for Zaynab Ali.

Moving into B class, another two bronze medals were achieved by Nuno Luis in both WT Sparring and individual poomsae.

Finally, in the A class division, demonstrating great control and power in the individual poomsae category, a bronze medal for club captain Fabian Burkhardt, and in the last fight of the day, a silver medal in ITF sparring for Grace Leppard.

The club would like to thank their coaches, Hamid and Abs as they continue to support and guide the team  with their valuable experience! They are hoping to keep this momentum going as they prepare for the BUCS Taekwondo Spring Championships in Colchester, which is coming up in less than a month. To keep unto date with all of Taekwondo’s successes, be sure to follow them on Twitter and Instagram.
