Team GB saw three UoB students help claim the Cross Country top spot
The European Cross Country Championships, in Samorin, Slovakia, saw another series of wins for some of the awesome athletes from UoB. Team GB rose to the top of the Championship with a total of five Golds, despite the freezing cold conditions.
Niamh Brown and Victoria Weir were part of the Great Britain Junior Women’s Team that took the Team Title. Niamh, a first-year Philosophy student and part of the University’s Talent ID programme, came a brilliant 12th on her EE debut (4th out of the team). Second-year sports scholar Victoria, who is studying Political Science and International Relations and has won a number of medals at BUCS events previously, was the 6th home out of the team, finishing in 52nd.
Sarah McDonald, another scholar who completed altitude training in France last month, then ran an incredible penultimate leg of the inaugural senior mixed 4 x 1500m relay, increasing the team’s advantage and setting up a GB victory for this innovative new event format. Sarah also recently qualified for the 2018 Commonwealth Games in the Gold Coast, so fingers crossed that the successes continue in slightly warmer conditions!
