The Extra Mile Development Page will advertise and showcase development opportunities whether you are a coach, volunteer, official, or you are just looking to support your local club, we are here to help to provide further information and support.
Developing your coaching will mean going on a course to gain an additional coaching qualification or by attending one-off workshops or short courses. A massive range of courses are available locally to help you gain a new or next level of coaching award, or simply develop your skills and knowledge for coaching.
See below for a wide range of resources.
This introductory workshop, delivered by a member of the Empowering CoachingTM team at the University of Birmingham, provides opportunities for coaches and individuals delivering sport sessions to understand the principles behind Empowering CoachingTM. Equipped with this knowledge, you will be challenged to re-evaluate common practices when coaching. You will have opportunity to interact with other workshop attendees to enhance your own existing motivational climate and to develop new strategies to help you create a more empowering environment in training and competition.
Accredited Advisor Assessment, FREE: This course is for anyone wishing to become a UK Anti-Doping (UKAD) Accredited Advisor. An Advisor plays an essential role in informing athletes and their athlete support personnel (ASP) about the values of clean sport and important anti-doping information.
Coach Clean, £15: All coaches, whether at the grass-roots or elite level of sport. Coach Clean is for coaches with no previous knowledge, to those who have worked in clean sport previously and will help clarify your own role in anti-doping and clean sport.
By taking part in extra-curricular activities through University of Birmingham Sport you may be able to earn points towards the university’s Personal Skills Award (PSA). The PSA is an employability programme for undergraduates which recognises participation in extra-curricular activities and supports students in developing, recognising and articulating professional skills in preparation for real world recruitment processes. To enrol on to the PSA and to find out more about the award, you can attend a ‘PSA Induction Session’ before the enrolment deadline of 19th January 2018. If you have any questions for the team you can email the PSA directly at email@example.com
