Climbing Sessions
Taster Session (adults 18+)
- £8 for members
- £9 for non-members
- £6 for students
These one-hour sessions are aimed at those who have never climbed before, giving you the opportunity to get kitted up and start climbing under the supervision of a qualified instructor.
Please arrive wearing flat-soled shoes and clothes that are easy to move in. Long leggings or trousers that cover your legs as much as possible will ensure you’re comfortable whilst climbing and wearing a harness.
Five week climbing courses
- £57 for members and UoB staff
- £64 for non-members
- £52 for students
Each session is 90 minutes and all equipment is included. New participants can only join the course in week 1 or 2, after this the course will be closed to new participants.
Beginner: This five-week course is for those with no prior experience of climbing indoors. You will learn the basics of safe climbing on indoor walls, including the correct fitting of a harness, how to tie into the rope, how to use a belay device, and will learn and practice the basics of climbing movement. By the end of this course, you will be competent in the use of safety equipment for indoor climbing.
Intermediate: This five-week course is for competent climbers or those who have completed a previous beginner-level course. You will learn efficient climbing movement techniques, gain an understanding of the different hold types and their use, and how to `read` a route, as well as build confidence and stamina.
Advanced: This five-week course follows on from the intermediate course, completing the indoor climbing skill set. Those who haven’t attended the intermediate course but are already competent – such as indoor top rope climbers – are welcome to attend. We concentrate on learning how to lead climb (climbing a route without a rope above you, taking your own rope, and clipping it into the safety bolts as you go). Best practice is taught and consistent throughout.
