Accessibility statement
for UoB Sport & Fitness' website
This website is run by University of Birmingham Sport & Fitness. Because we want as many people as possible to be able to use this website, as a user with accessible needs, you should be able to do the following things.
- Change colours, contrast levels and fonts
- Zoom in up to 300% without the text spilling off the screen
- Navigate most of the website using just a keyboard
- Navigate most of the website using speech recognition software
- Listen to most of the website using a screen reader (including the most recent versions of JAWS, NVDA and VoiceOver)
We also aim to make the website text as simple as possible to understand.

Compliance status
This website is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.2 AA standard, due to the non-compliances listed below.
- The colour contrast on some page elements is insufficient to be easily discernible for all users.
- Some links cannot be used by screen readers.
- Users cannot quickly skip to content on all pages.
- Some tables do not contain headers or a scope.
- Some controls do not change appearance when they are selected.
- Some images inside links do not have alternative text specified.
6. Non-accessible content
The content listed below is not accessible for the following reasons:
- Some images, icons and buttons do not have a discernible or alternative text. This fails WCAG 1.1.1 Non-text Content (A). We aim to address this issue by July 2025.
- Some links contain no text and we need to add discernible text. This fails WCAG 2.4.4 Link Purpose (In Context) (A). We aim to address this issue by July 2025.
- The colour contrast on some page elements is insufficient to be easily discernible for all users. This fails WCAG 1.4.3 Contrast (Minimum) (AA). We aim to address this issue by July 2025.
- Embedded YouTube videos aren’t fully accessible. This fails WCAG 1.2.1 Prerecorded Audio-only and Video-only (A), 1.2.2 Captions (Prerecorded) (A), and 1.2.3 Audio Description or Media Alternative (Prerecorded) (A). We aim to address this issue by July 2025.
- Some links cannot be used by screen readers. This fails WCAG 2.4.4 Link Purpose (In Context) (A). We aim to address this issue by July 2025.
- Users cannot quickly skip to content on all pages and needs to be accessible via the keyboard as well. This fails WCAG 2.1.1 Keyboard (A) and 2.4.1 Bypass Blocks (Level A). We aim to address this issue by July 2025.
- Not all controls change appearance when they are selected. This fails WCAG 2.4.7 Focus Visible (AA) and 3.2.2 On Input (A). We aim to address this issue by July 2025.
- Content must have their visible text as part of their accessible name. This fails WCAG 2.5.3 Label in Name (A). We aim to address this issue by July 2025.

We have reviewed the issues identified in the last audit and have split those into actions we can solve, and actions that require changes by our supplier. We plan to address these issues by 31 July 2025, and provide regular updates about our suppliers roadmap for fixes.
