Entries now closed

Entries have now closed for 2025, and we are unable to accept late requests to participate in the event.

Apologies if you’ve missed out but please come down and enjoy the atmosphere on the day.  There’s plenty of other free sport on offer across the first week of UoB Xtra from wheelchair basketball in Chancellor’s Court to badminton, football and basketball in Sport & Fitness.

All details are at the link below – just filter by Sport & Fitness in the category field.

Before the event

Event numbers

  • All participants will be provided with an event number, personalised with your first name.
  • On the day of Campus 3K, you’ll need to attach your number so it is clearly visible to marshals on the front of your body. You will not be allowed to participate without your own number being visible.
  • You must complete the emergency contact details on the reverse
  • Please ensure you do not give your number to anyone else. You will not be able to participate in the Campus 3K using another participant’s number and details.

Number collection

Pre-event collections will take place at the following times from the event gazebo, located underneath the Harding building (R1) next to Old Joe. Click for the what3words location: ///ever.hands.flying

  • Monday 9 June, 12.30pm – 3.30pm
  • Tuesday 10 June, 12.30pm – 3.30pm

You will also be able to pick up your bib on the day of the event from 11.00am – 12.30pm from the UoB Xtra Stretch Tent on the Green Heart.

We strongly recommend picking up your number ahead of event day to save time.

The first 125 student entrants and the first 125 staff entrants to pick up their number will receive a free commemorative t-shirt!

You are able to collect numbers on behalf of other participants, but we are unable to take responsibility for lost numbers. We are unable to reprint or reallocate numbers.

Preparing for the event

The Campus 3K is for all speeds and abilities and has been designed for your enjoyment, however, if you are planning on completing the 3km distance, it’s a good idea to ensure that you are fully prepared.

If you would prefer to familiarise yourself with the course beforehand then you will find the course map below.

Here are a few tips from UoB Sport & Fitness:

  • Make sure that you are confident that you can complete the distance safely. Whether that’s by completing some steady walks, or undergoing a fully-fledged training plan to blast the 3km course.
  • Make sure you wear comfortable and weather-suitable clothing – don’t wear anything for the very first time on the day.
  • You don’t need to eat anything special the night before, but do try and get a good night’s rest!

On the day

The event village is situated in the Green Heart. Here you will find registration desks, bag drop as well as the pre-event briefing and warm up. The starting line is in University Square, next to Old Joe. Marshals will direct you to the start on the day.

There are no specific facilities dedicated to the Campus 3K but facilities available throughout campus as normal.

Try and leave all non-essential belongings at home. Participants can make use of the Bag Drop located at the UoB Xtra Stretch Tent in the Green Heart. This will be open before the event between 11.00am – 12.30pm and will re-open after the event begins at around 1.15pm until 2.30pm. Please note that all items are left at the owner’s own risk.

The route will take you around campus and will be supported by our wonderful marshals throughout. We will have a lead cyclist to direct the faster participants and tail walkers to ensure no one is left behind.

We are delighted to be joined by Lucazade, who will be providing post-event refreshments for participants once you cross the finishing line. We are also pleased to announce that any participant that shows their event number to campus food and drink outlets will receive 20% off (non-alcohol) for the rest of the day. Perfect for a post-event coffee and cake!

We have paramedics and first aiders available for the event, who will be located across the course and by the start and finish area. If you need assistance or to stop for any reason, then please attract the attention of the nearest marshal or one of the onsite medical team, who will be able to support you.

You are permitted to wear headphones during the event, but please:

  • Take off headphones during the pre-event briefing
  • Reduce volume so that you can hear instructions of marshals and staff along the route and reduce the chance of collisions with other participants

The event will cause some disruption to campus including to access to the University ring road, and will also impact access to vehicles parked on campus earlier on the day.

Access to campus will be paused between 12.45pm – 2.00pm on Wednesday 11 June, and vehicles will not be able to drive on campus roads being used by the event. If you need to know more about the route for access or accessibility, please contact us.

If you need to access your vehicle to leave campus between these times then it is recommended to use one of the car parks outside of the route, which includes:

  • South Gate Car Park
  • Edgbaston Park
  • West Car Park
  • Teaching & Learning Building Car Park
  • North East Multi Storey
  • Brailsford Drive Multi Storey
  • Selly Oak Campus

We would love you to share your experiences of your day, so please feel free to share posts on social mediausing #UoBXtra and tag@ubsport.

Please note that photographs and footage will be taken throughout UoB Xtra. These will be used by the University for marketing and publicity in our publications, on our website, and in social media.
