Cool Runnings

Cool Runnings is the participation wing of the University Athletics Club. Our focus is on encouraging participation in running within a pressure-free environment.

We run training sessions for established runners and total beginners, with a thriving Couch to 5K program each term.

Our training sessions cater to all abilities and can be as competitive or casual as you like. Whether you’ve never run before or are aiming to complete a half-marathon, we have training sessions for all. Including group runs, interval and circuit training, track sessions and long runs. The club has a friendly and inclusive atmosphere and offers the opportunity to get to know club members at our weekly socials which allow us to build a running community within our club. These socials include bowling, Christmas meals, balls and sports nights at the Guild.

Outside of the club we attend many events such as weekly Park Runs at Canon Hill, Birmingham 10K and Half Marathon, Warwick Cross Country Relays and Coventry 10k.

For more information on membership, training sessions and socials have a look at our social media pages below.

Inclusion, Accessibility and Disability Practices

Cool Runnings is the most affordable club at the University, ensuring accessibility for individuals from different socio-economic backgrounds. The club does not hold trials or selection processes, making participation open to all. Members can take part in a fully coached “Couch to 5K” program designed for beginners, helping them build confidence and fitness at a comfortable pace. With flexible training schedules, members can attend sessions that suit their circumstances.

Running is inherently accessible, and the club maximises inclusivity by designing sessions to accommodate all ability levels. Experienced runners and committee members provide support to ensure that no one is left behind. By training around campus and minimising costs, the club remains accessible to students with travel constraints. Through these efforts, the club creates a welcoming space where financial barriers do not hinder participation.
