BUCS Physiology Support Award
The sports science department at the University of Birmingham Sport and Fitness is looking to provide physiology support to talented University of Birmingham athletes throughout the 2024/25 academic year.
Support will primary be delivered by Sport and Exercise Science placement students, overseen by Applied Sport Scientist and Physiology Lead, David Sheldon.
Support will include but is not limited to; lab and/or field-based physiology testing and monitoring to help benchmark and inform training, in line with the physiological demands of a given sport. (e.g. VO2max and lactate threshold test with associated report to guide training focus, zones etc.).
Criteria for consideration
- Currently a registered University of Birmingham student and eligible to compete in BUCS in sport/sport scholarships/TASS/the 2024/25 academic year
- Commitment to priortising and competing in BUCS championships in the 2024/25 academic year
- Realistic potential of scoring individual (i.e. top 4 position) or contributing to team BUCS points in 2024/25
- Compete in an individual BUCS sport (see above link) where physical capacities and fitness plays a significant part in success within that sport. This includes but is not limited to; cycling, triathlon, duathlon, orienteering, rowing, boxing.
- Athletes from team sports will NOT be considered for this award.
- Not currently receiving physiology support through another University of Birmingham Sport Scholarship (e.g. EDCAP, ATS)
