The University of Birmingham Sport & Fitness marketing department supports the University’s 60 sports clubs, sport events, participation programmes and sport scholars as well as the promotion of the Sport & Fitness club facilities.

Current Opportunities

Please note that the below roles are unpaid positions, but you will be provided with a free PRIME Sport & Fitness or Tiverton membership for the year.

We are looking for a student with a talent for creating engaging ‘on trend’ short videos and static content to be shared across our UoB Sport and Sport and Fitness channels.

Role responsibilities:

 

  • Create engaging digital content for the marketing team to share across social channels
  • Boost engagement on our social media channels by researching the latest social trends in the world of sport and beyond
  • Lead on and feature in user-generated videos
  • Create TikTok style short videos for the marketing team to share across social channels
  • Bring fun/trending ideas to the marketing team, focusing on upcoming events across our student audience and our Sport and Fitness members
  • Utilise content from the marketing asset bank to create
  • Upload captured content to the marketing digital asset bank into themed folders with relevant meta data
  • Collate content into videos using assets stored in the Marketing shared drive
  • Jump on more ‘reactive’ content opportunities

Skills required 

 

  • Proficient in video creation and editing together content
  • A sound awareness of how different social media platforms work and ability to identify best practices for higher performing content
  • Proactive in researching trends and inspiration to replicate across our channels
  • Comfortable and confident both behind and in front of the camera
  • Reliable, attending scheduled activity and logging completed hours in ambassador spreadsheet
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to adhere to brand guidelines when creating and sharing content
  • Time management – managing multiple projects a week and meeting deadlines

Commitment

  • This role requires you to complete 60 hours during term-time from September 2025 – June 2026. Week to week your hours may vary depending on how many events and activities we have taking place. It will be the ambassador’s responsibility to keep track of hours on our spreadsheet log – which will be reviewed by the Marketing team at the end of each term. A degree of flexibility is required for support on shorter notice events, although this will be avoided as much as possible with a pre-planned calendar.

We are looking for two passionate students to represent UoB Sport and Fitness and promote our offer across the University and beyond.

 

Role responsibilities:

 

  • Attending and supporting events organised by UoB Sport & Fitness including: Welcome Week, Sport & Fitness Fair, Open Days, Applicant Visit Days and BUCS Super Series
  • General promotion of UoB Sport & Fitness across campus and halls of residence
  • Taking over UoB Sport Instagram stories to cover events including weekly BUCS Wednesdays, BUCS Super Series and annual sporting events such as BUCS Big Wednesday
  • Wearing mascot Rory the lion costume for events and content
  • Assisting with market research and delivering focus groups when needed
  • Support with live streaming sport matches and events (training and equipment is provided)

Additional responsibilities

 

  • Supporting the sales team with membership promotion
  • Flyering on campus and in the local area

We are looking for a dedicated individual who can support our sales and memberships team to drive UoB Sport & Fitness and Tiverton Gym’s offers to students, staff and the community.

 

Role responsibilities

  • Flyering around campus to promote our student memberships
  • Attending outreach events with the sales and memberships teams to engage with the wider community and staff members
  • Attending Open Days, Welcome Week and Applicant Visit Days
  • Share creative methods for us to engage with students, staff and community members
  • Analyse member statistics to identify areas to focus our engagement

Additional responsibilities

  • Supporting content ambassadors with content creation and BUCS Wednesday takeovers

It will be the ambassador’s responsibility to keep track of hours on our spreadsheet log – which will be reviewed by the Marketing team at the end of each term. A degree of flexibility is required for support on shorter notice events, although this will be avoided as much as possible with a pre-planned calendar.
  • Attend compulsory review meetings at the beginning and end of each term with the marketing team.

We are looking for an enthusiastic student with a passion for photography to help promote our clubs, services and facilities.

N.B. Access to your own equipment is desirable, although we do have some equipment if required.

Role responsibilities

  • Attend a select number of University matches in the British University & College Sport (BUCS) leagues and competitions per week. These will take place on campus, mostly on Wednesday afternoons
  • Coverage of all specified events that have been organised by UoB Sport & Fitness – this includes all BUCS Super Series events, along with other student and member events on campus
  • Arrange separate photography with clubs where requested
  • Assistance with the promotion of student sport events, which may include photoshoots to be used in the design of promotional materials
  • General photography of Sport & Fitness facilities
  • Photography of participation programmes such as classes, Try A Sport session and Campus League, as well as one-day events taking place throughout the year
  • Coverage the occasional off-campus events and external events throughout the year
  • Meeting deadlines to submit your content to the marketing department with clear labelling

We are looking for three students who have a passion for sports and fitness, who can support the delivery of our participation programmes.

 

We have three opportunities across our sub-programmes. Please express which roles you are interested in via the application form.

 

PARTICIPATION AMBASSADOR: CASUAL SPORT

Main duties:

  • Delivery of weekly Social Sport session(s) throughout Term 1 and Term 2
  • Support wider UoB Sport and Fitness team during Sports Fair and Campus League tasters during Welcome Week and Week 1
  • Actively support with fostering the Participation ethos of inclusive and enjoyable sport for all, where everyone feels confident and comfortable participating.
  • Available to support on at least one University of Birmingham Open Day.

PARTICIPATION AMBASSADOR: GROUP EXERCISE CLASSES

Main duties:

  • Support wider UoB Sport and Fitness team during Sports Fair and tasters during Welcome Week and Week 1
  • Attend regular group exercise classes, conducting class reviews and sending your feedback to the Group Exercise Class Co-ordinator
  • Potential administrative support throughout academic year
  • Available to support on at least one University of Birmingham Open Day
  • Opportunity to train as Group Exercise instructor 

PARTICIPATION AMBASSADOR: SWIMMING

Main duties:

  • Support wider UoB Sport and Fitness team during Sports Fair and tasters during Welcome Week and Week 1
  • Provide regular administrative support to the Swimming co-ordinator throughout the academic year
  • Willingness to provide in-water lesson support for the Learn to Swim swimming programme throughout the academic year, where necessary (no swimming ability required, pool depth 0.9m)
  • Available to support on at least one University of Birmingham Open Day
  • Opportunity to train as Swimming teacher
