Junior Swimming Lessons
Swimming is a key life skill, that we want to support all of our juniors in developing, no matter the age they begin.
We provide fun and engaging lessons that help to build your children’s confidence and techniques in the water. Following the Swim England Learn to Swim pathway, the lessons are designed to reward all for their development of essential aquatic skills in order to be confident, competent and safe.
Benefits of your children learning to swim
- Swimming is the only sport which can help to save your child’s life.
- The ability to swim is an essential life-saving skill. It’s important to remember that children who appear water confident are not always competent swimmers.
- Swimming is lots of fun for people of all ages and children especially love getting in the water and enjoying themselves.
- Swimming keeps your child’s heart and lungs healthy, improves strength and flexibility, increases stamina and even improves balance and posture.
- Children of any age or ability can take part and it is more accessible for children with additional needs.

- Learning to swim also opens the door to a range of other activities. Such as: Kayaking, Canoeing, Surfing, and Scuba Diving.
Junior Swimming Lessons
- Lessons over 10 weeks for children up to 16 years old
- Swimming hat and locker band
- Certificates of achievement
- Parents have access to Home Portal, allowing you to follow your child's progress and purchase additional lessons
- Lessons run throughout the week during term time
- Duckling classes and lessons for stages 1-7 are 30 minutes and lessons for stages 8-10 are 45 minutes

Discovery Ducklings (parent & child in the water)
The Discovery Ducklings classes are the start of the ‘Learn to Swim’ experience for all children. These classes are perfect for babies, toddlers and pre-school children who are new to swimming. Ideal for gaining water confidence whilst staying close to adult support.
(Age 0-3 years)

Discovery Duckling classes are 30 minutes long.

Ducklings
To help toddlers enjoy learning to swim. This stage promotes increased independence and water confidence.
(Age 3-4 years)

Stage One
Learners will develop basic safety awareness, learn basic movement skills and water confidence skills. Swimmers may use flotation equipment, such as armbands and floats, throughout this stage.

Stage Two
Children will be able to confidently paddle five meters without adult support whilst using swimming aids.

Stage Two classes are 30 minutes long.

Stage Three
Children will be able to swim five meters without support or swimming aids on their front or back, working towards being able to swim 10 meters. Water safety knowledge will also be developed.

Stage Four
Children will learn to swim 10 meters on their front and back. Swimmers will focus on refining kicking technique for all four strokes.

Stage Five
Children will focus on swimming all four strokes. Swimmers must be able to tread water in deep water for one minute with ease to progress to Stage Six.

Stage Six
The swimmer should be able to perform all four strokes at a high standard as required by Swim England at the completion of this stage.

Stage Seven
Upon completion on Stage Seven, the swimmer will be able to perform all four strokes at a high standard with coordinated breathing, as required by Swim England.

Stage Eight
During this stage, the swimmer will learn to swim 400 meters and perform all four strokes at a high standard with coordinated breathing, as required by Swim England.

Sunday: 9.15am
Stage Nine
This stage will enable the swimmer to swim 800 meters and perform all four strokes including Swim England legal turns to a high standard.

Stage Ten
By the end of Stage 10, the swimmer should be able to swim 1500 meters and perform all four strokes including legal turns.

Sunday: 9.15am
Rookies
Once completing a minimum of Stage Six, this class will give your child a solid safety education and have learned rescue and resuscitation techniques.

School Swimming
Sport & Fitness offers a pioneering experience for school swimming lessons. We will help children become competent swimmers and confident in the water. Our mission is for children to enjoy swimming and create a pathway for them to participate outside of school.
- Swim England School Swimming Charter accredited lesson programme (modules one and two)
- Daily or weekly programmes of 45-minute slots available Monday to Friday during term time
- A safe poolside environment and designated changing facilities

Adult Swimming Lessons
Our adult swimming lessons are designed to provide you with focused tuition, in small groups, to empower you in developing your own skills and confidence. Whether you’re looking to start from the beginning, or you’re looking to enhance your current ability, our Swim Experts are here to support you through the process.
We aim to make our lessons inclusive for everyone. Adults can use the walk-in steps to enter the pool, and our instructors are trained to support those managing long-term health conditions or with disabilities.
Adult Swimming Lessons
- Maximum of one swimming teacher to ten adults
- Led by fully-qualified Swim England teachers, providing focused and progressive lessons
- Equipment is provided including a locker band, swimming hat, floats, woggles, kick boards and pull buoys.
- Lessons will run for ten consecutive weeks from the date of your first lesson

Beginners (Level One)
This first stage requires no previous swimming experience. It will work on increasing water confidence and introduce swimming on your front and back. Lessons take place at 1.2m depth and learners will leave being able to swim 10-15 metres without aids.

Intermediate (Level Two)
For those who can swim 10-15m of Front Crawl, Backstroke or Breaststroke. It will introduce front crawl, with rhythmical breathing, backstroke, and breaststroke. Lessons take place in 1.2m depth, but our instructors will begin to make you confident in deep water.

Improvers (Level Three)
Taking place in the deep end of the pool (2.0m deep), these lessons will work on improving technique in Front Crawl, Backstroke and Breaststroke. Butterfly may be introduced. It will work on increasing stamina and swimming up to 400m.

Master Swimming (Level Four)
These lessons are for advanced swimmers, continuing work on all four strokes, and equipping you with the skills to compete in events. Perfect for those preparing for a triathlon, open water swimming, or wanting to join a masters swimming club.
Lesson Times
- Wednesday: 6.15pm (one hour long)
- Initially, bookings are available in a block of ten, but after this, you have the option to top-up in blocks of five or ten.
- There are no specific start dates for our lessons. Please enquire and we can let you know when your first lesson will commence.
- Lessons can only be re-credited for medical reasons (with evidence provided), we do not re-credit lessons for general sickness or holidays.
