The University of Birmingham Touch Rugby Club is an extremely fun, friendly, and inclusive club.
Â
We are a mixed-gender sports society that prides ourselves on providing an environment where all members can thrive, whether they have played touch before or not.
Â
Touch is a great way to improve your fitness, make friends, and broaden core sport skills. We offer five hours of training per week, open to all members, with our coaches tailoring training sessions to suit all abilities.
In the 2025/26 season, we were awarded the England Touch Affiliate University of the Year, reflecting our commitment to inclusivity, growth and development of both the sport and our players.
Â
Over the past three years as a club, we have grown from 80 to 150 members ranging from social to competitive. Together these accomplishments led to the club being shortlisted for Club of the Year at the University.
Our Club
Whether you’re looking for a competitive experience or want to enjoy the social side of the club, there are plenty of opportunities to get involved.
The competitive side of the club has expanded from two BUCS teams to three. At the BUCS National Touch Championships, the Lions (1s) placed 6th, the Pumas (2s) placed 14th, and the Jags (3s) placed 30th. Alongside our BUCS squads, we also have a growing Development Squad that takes part in fixtures against local clubs and universities, providing playing opportunities across the club.
We also have a large social side, with members attending Sports Night at the Guild every Wednesday and a range of events throughout the year, including our summer ball and tour. Members can also get involved in campus Football and Netball leagues.
There are opportunities to be part of the club both on and off the pitch, with something for everyone.

Inclusion, Accessibility and Disability Practices
Touch Rugby at the University of Birmingham embraces inclusivity, offering varied participation levels, from social games to competitive BUCS training. The club focuses on expanding participation by introducing development squads, collaborating with external clubs, and ensuring that all training sessions are accessible and engaging. Regular social events further enhance the club’s welcoming culture.
Â
To ensure inclusivity, the club emphasises personalised experiences for each member. Opportunities for transitioning from social to competitive play help members develop skills in a supportive environment. Additionally, the club fosters a friendly atmosphere through weekly social events, allowing members from different backgrounds to interact and feel a sense of belonging.
