Becoming part of a University of Birmingham Sport and Fitness – Sports Club, as a member you get access to various benefits. Below is the list of benefits with descriptions of how to access them.

The terms and conditions listed outline the sports club membership, start and end date of membership, refund policy and termination of membership. The Terms and Conditions also refer to the Sports Club Code of Conduct.

Additional Benefits

Triage Clinic 

The Triage Clinic is available for any student athlete who has sustained a suspected sports-related injury. This service is FREE to access. 

 

Triage Clinic takes place within Term 1 and Two on the following days: 
Monday: 11am – 12.40pm

Thursday: 11am – 1.40pm

 

To book an appointment, the student athlete must come to Sport and Fitness at 8.30am on a Monday and Thursday morning within term time to book their slot.  

 

Slots are on a first come first served basis. Details will be taken from the student athlete and an assessment will be made and recommendations given to both student and coach (if appropriate).

 

 

Triage clinic opens on w/c 18 September and runs until w/c 4 December. January onwards clinic dates will be confirmed in December via the UBSport and Fitness Website.

Concussion Clinic

The Concussion Clinic is available for any student athlete who has sustained a suspected sports related concussion. The service is FREE to access. Concussion Triage takes place on a Thursday between 1.30pm – 3.30pm within the Performance Centre (3rd Floor, Sport and Fitness).  

 

To book an appointment, the student athlete has ring 0121 440 7736 the Thursday morning. Details will be taken by the clinic and feedback to coaches provided on assessment & recommendation. 

 

Concussion clinic opens on Thursday 21 September and runs until Thursday 7 December 

Concussion Policy 

From the 2023-24 academic year and the introduction of UK Government Concussion guidance, University of Birmingham Sport and Fitness have created a Concussion policy. If a member of UoB Sport and Fitness sustains a concussion, the graduated return to play will be 21 days.

If you have any concerns that yourself or someone else has a suspected concussion, please attend the concussion clinic to be assessed by professionals.

Sports Club Classes

There are a series of fitness classes which take place across the course of the week which are bookable to Sports Club Members. The service is FREE and covers classes like plyometrics, flexibility, spin and many more.

 

Sports Club Classes will start from w/c 25 September and will run until w/c 4 December.

 

January 2024 classes will be confirmed in December via the UoBSport and Fitness website.

Insurance

Becoming a member of a Sports Club you covered by Personal Accident insurance through the University. 

Endsleigh Ltd is our insurance provider for all Sports Clubs and provides personal accident insurance for all paid members.

How to claim  

Please email [email protected] if you have sustained an injury. Club Development will provide you with the relevant information to claim.  

Wellbeing

Throughout your time at university, the university wellbeing services are here to support you in a multitude of areas from welfare support, mental health, disability and safety plus much more.

The Report and Support platform here is there you can inform the university of anything that has happened to you and/or others. We have a specific UBSport and Fitness tile where you can report sport related incidents. 

Discipline

Becoming part of a University Sports Club, there set expectations that we expect from our members. This can be seen in our Sports Club Code of Conduct. 

 

Additionally, you can report any conduct related issues both within your academic career and your sports club here via the University of Birmingham Report and Support 

Sports Executive 

The Sports Executive is a group of 8 students sports club members, Sports Officer and Club Development who work together to provide, lead and excel sports clubs at the University of Birmingham. 

 

They executive advise UBSport on upcoming trends within sports clubs, issues that might be arising and support the wider UBSport objective. More information coming soon on this years Sports Executive

The Birmingham Award 

The Birmingham Award is the University of Birmingham’s recognised employability programme for undergraduate students. Endorsed by graduate employers, the award supports you to develop and recognise the skills you gain through extra-curricular activities, and how to articulate these skills in preparation for real world recruitment process.

Consent Matters Training

As part of our continued commitment to support students, we have worked with the University Student Affairs team to roll out widely to Sports Clubs consent matters training. The training takes an hour to complete, and we recommend all University of Birmingham Sports Club Members to complete the training.

FAQ's

No, unfortunately, you can only purchase a student membership with an @student.bham.ac.uk email. 

No, all students must purchase their membership online, unless instructed otherwise by the Membership team.

If you don’t know your PIN, click the ‘forgotten your PIN?’ link on the login page and it will be emailed to your student email address. Alternatively, you can watch this video on how to request a new PIN.

As an upcoming 1st year student, we are currently waiting for new student information to be shared with us by the central university. Once provided and added to our system, you will be able to log-in.

We will need you to provide proof of studies in order for us to resolve this.

Current students who are registered can access the following letters on the Verify Secure Documents website:

  • Bank letters
  • Council tax letters
  • General proof of registration letters

In order to access your letters on Verify Secure Documents, please follow these steps:

  1. Go to https://verify.bham.ac.uk
  2. Log in using your normal student username and password
  3. Click View Secure Documents
  4. Click Secure Letters

This will then show you the secure letters available to you. To view your letters, first click on the menu item next to each letter and then click View E-Letter.

Once obtained, please send this to [email protected].

No, all memberships are single site only with the exception of Gym Group Training, which is included in Tiverton Gym Plus memberships, all these sessions are delivered in Sport & Fitness (on campus) studios. 

There are a number of reasons why payment could be failing at the purchasing stage of your membership:

  • If you are using an international payment card – if at all possible, please use a UK payment card. However, if this is not possible, please email [email protected]
  • If you have any special characters in your name such as an apostrophe this could cause an error in the system

If you are unable to complete payment, please email [email protected] and include in the email: your full name, your student ID number, the name of your bank and country it is based, the membership you are trying to buy (e.g. Sport & Fitness Prime Peak) and a screenshot of the error message if possible.

If you think payment may have gone through but it is not showing online, please include in your email the last four digits of the long card number you are trying to pay with.

Student memberships at University of Birmingham give you access to the BUCS UNIversal gym scheme to access multiple University gyms across the country.

 

Any student membership at Sport & Fitness or Tiverton Gym is eligible for a UNIversal Gym membership. If your membership is cancelled or terminated for any reason, your UNIversal Gym membership will also be removed.
