Handball

The University of Birmingham Handball Club is one of the cheapest BUCS

sports, with training sessions held three times a week and BUCS qualifiers twice

a year. If qualified, we partake in the National Finals. We have both men and

women teams, with no trials required.

Our mixed club consists of development and experienced training sessions per week – little to no experience of playing handball is more than welcome.

We have regular friendlies (home and away) against other clubs or universities, as well as outdoor handball tournaments in the summer term and regular internal tournaments.

The club has weekly Sports Night socials, as well as sober socials and other fun, inclusive events hosted throughout the year. Our popular annual tour held in June allows the club to experience a few days in another country, celebrating the end of a wonderful year.

Our Club

We currently have four BUCS teams: Men’s 1s, Men’s 2s, Women’s 1s, and Women’s 2s.

We do not hold trials, and anyone of any ability is welcome to join the club.

We collaborate with Birmingham Bisons Handball Club, a local club with whom we integrate some weekly training sessions. This provides experienced players with the opportunity to play in the regional league, gain more match practice, and improve player experience.

As a club, we pride ourselves on being highly inclusive. Our experienced coaches provide one-to-one, group, and team feedback during training and matches. Alongside handball, our weekly socials give members the opportunity to grow relationships with other players within and outside the sport. Members can also apply for the role of Tour Secretary within the club.
