HOCKEY
We offer a wealth of opportunities for you to get involved in Hockey. Whether it’s through playing at the top level or trying it for the first time, there’s a programme for you at Birmingham.
CAMPUS LEAGUE HOCKEY
Campus League Hockey is open to all staff and students where you can participate in regular social sport leagues and one-off tournaments throughout the academic year. You can enter as part of your existing departmental team, society, halls or simply just as a group of friends.
STUDENT CLUB
The University of Birmingham Hockey Club is one of the most successful university hockey clubs in the country. The club has twelves teams altogether including six men’s and six women’s teams. All 12 of the club’s teams compete in the British University and Colleges Sport leagues on Wednesdays.Â

Both men’s and women’s first teams compete in the highest level of competition; BUCS National League. The Club has a number of international players representing the University currently. Notable alumni of the club include Lily Owsley MBE and Sophie Bray MBE, Rio 2016 Olympic Gold Medallists.Â

2x WATER SYNTHETIC PITCHES
We have two international standard water-based pitches located opposite the Sport & Fitness Club. These pitches will be used during the 2022 Commonwealth Games.

Our state-of-the-art gym is available for all your strength and conditioning needs.

COMPETITION OPPORTUNITIES
12 teams, 6 men and 6 women that compete in BUCS leagues ranging from Premier National through to Tier 3. The club also compete in multiple cup competitions and weekend leagues both locally and nationally.
PERFORMANCE HOCKEY
The University of Birmingham sport’s performance centre offers specialist sport science and medicine support for developing athletic performance. Our dedicated team of experts work closely with athletes to create an integrated training and support plan which benefits from the University’s leading sport science research. With access to state-of-the-art facilities and expert staff, our performance athletes have access to further support, including strength and conditioning, and sports physiology and nutrition.

University of Birmingham male and female hockey teams have been playing at national league level since the late 1990s, and are one of the original two university teams to have been in the leagues for that long.
