Our Club
We train four times a week in the pool, alongside two dry-side first aid sessions. Club members have the opportunity to complete RLSS Bronze Star awards and the National Pool Lifeguard Qualification (NPLQ), with free NPLQ training hours available.
Throughout the year, we compete at BULSCA league competitions hosted by universities across the country and also host our own competition, Brum Comp. The annual BULSCA Lifesaving Student Championships are a key event in the calendar, bringing together universities from across the UK. We also attend speed events such as the RLSS UK National Speed Lifesaving Championships, providing opportunities for members interested in the performance swimming side of the sport. Members can take part in as many or as few competitions as they choose, with the first competition of the season designed to be welcoming for new competitors.
Away from training and competition, our club has a busy social calendar, including weekly socials, trips such as bowling and climbing, and an annual camping trip each summer, giving members plenty of opportunities to get involved throughout the year.

Inclusion, Accessibility & Disability Practices
Â
The Lifesaving Club is committed to inclusivity by welcoming members of all swimming abilities, including those without prior experience. The club ensures reasonable adjustments in competitions, such as allocating outer lanes for individuals with mobility impairments and using dyslexia-friendly fonts in Simulated Emergency Response Competitions (SERCs). These measures make participation accessible for all members. Furthermore, the club successfully obtained a grant from the Alumni Impact Fund to purchase CPR manikins of different races, enhancing diversity in training equipment. Â
Â
The club continuously works toward making lifesaving more accessible and accommodating. By removing barriers related to swimming ability and physical impairments, members feel supported and encouraged to participate in all aspects of the sport. The club also fosters an inclusive environment by adjusting competition structures to ensure everyone has an equal opportunity to succeed. Efforts like these contribute to a diverse and welcoming lifesaving community.
