Women's Rugby Union
Student Club
University of Birmingham Women’s Rugby Club prides itself on being a competitive and inclusive club. We have no trials, welcoming players with any or no rugby experience to join our family – taking pride in the fact that all our weekly training sessions are catered to accommodate everyone, regardless of their sporting background. We have 4 high-quality coaches, delivering 3 weekly training sessions.
Alongside training, we hold regular, weekly socials. We host a Christmas Dinner at the end of Semester one, as well as our annual Rugby Dinner to celebrate the end of the season and the successes from the year, recognising those individuals who have gone above and beyond for the club. The best part of our year is our super-series event Engage, highlighting the strength and talent of our club. This year, we’re also starting a weekly running club to improve our fitness and get game-day ready.
We are a growing club with a successful record on and off the pitch. A number of our students have gone on to play in the Premiership, for the Red Roses and represent Great Britain 7s in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. Currently, we have teams competing in BUCS Midlands 1A and Midlands 1B. We also have a Development Squad for those new to the game or players looking to build their confidence in rugby, who frequently play in the Inner Warrior Series, as well as friendlies against local clubs. For the 25/26 season, our Development Squad has joined with a local team – Bournville Rugby Club – competing in a NC3 league.
After the BUCS season, we also compete in many 7s events, including hosting our very own Annual 7s Tournament, attending one of the biggest Charity 7s Tournaments in the country, Oddballs Festival, as well as BUCS Celestial 7s. With England hosting the Women’s Rugby World Cup 2025, the tournament will shine a spotlight on the rapid growth of the game and the power of women in sport, there has never been a better time to get involved.
UoBWRFC also offers many other opportunities for personal development, including refereeing and coaching qualifications.
