SAILING

Winners of the 2023 Sports Awards Pride award

We are a friendly club who welcome people of all abilities, meaning we can cater for people who have never sailed before to world champions. We are super keen for evryone to get involved in any aspect of the sailing cub, we have a very active social scene, alongside social sailing and stepping up to our development and performance squad. We also go on an annual yatching trip called Brumsail, where we hire yacths to go sailing round either Greece or Croatia.

Social Sailing

On Wednesday afternoons, we provide social sailing where no matter your ability of sailing or experience you are welcome to come along. This is where any member of our sailing club can attend no matter the standard, to enjoy sailing as a break from your degree. We have a range of boats to choose from: Fusion, Pico, Firefly and Visions. We can provide RYA level course at reduced rates throughout the year, alongside opportunities to get into instructing within our own sailing club plus working with Andrew Simpson Centre who are situated where we sail at Bartley Reservoir.

PERFORMANCE SQUAD

We train in boats called Firefly’s where we compete in Team Racing events throughout the year. This is our BUCS level which is aimed at sailors who have experience racing but not necessary team racing but are keen to train and are committed. We have coaching from National Level firefly sailors, along with past alumni sailors. Team trains throughout the year (September – April), every Saturday plus a few Sundays. We have 2 teams consisting of 6 people per team.

Development Squad

Our development squad trains alongside our team on weekends and has the progression to move up to the team level within the sailing year, they benefit from top level coaching with the choice to either just train and not compete or train and improve to reach the standard of the performance squad. This is ideal for sailors who have more extensive sailing but maybe aren’t confident in their racing ability or just want to practice and learn racing.
