SQUASH
Squash is a game of two players on one court, involving agility, strategy, power and speed.
From those who want to pick up a racket for the first time, to professional level squash, the University of Birmingham welcomes all abilities to enjoy and develop their game. We provide training from first team players through to social members and encourage all to attend social events together.
Squash has one of the highest Metabolic Equivalent of Task (MET) values (estimate of how many calories are burned during a specific physical activity) across all of the game-based sports.
At a beginner level, this has a score of 7.3, or 12 for a frequent player. For comparison, at a beginner level, football has a rating of 7, badminton is 5.5, cricket is 4.8 and basketball is 6.5.

SOCIAL Squash
Our Social Sport programme offers members and non-members free, competitive sessions. Discover our Social Sport programme here.
We also host two Social Squash sessions per week for our social members to encourage them to meet new squash partners in a friendly and relaxed environment. You’ll get the chance to play other members of a similar standard to develop your game play, as well as being supported by a committee member to coach you in developing your game.
- Thursday Evenings
- Saturday Afternoons
We also have multiple social events with other universities throughout the year for our social members to have the opportunity to compete.
STUDENT CLUB
