BUCS Outdoors 2025: Birmingham breaks records in Manchester
Golds, glory and a new era of Brum athletics.
It was a sensational weekend for the University of Birmingham Athletics Club at the BUCS Outdoor Championships 2025. Held in Manchester, the event saw Birmingham athletes dominate the track and field with a performance that will be remembered for years to come.
The team secured a staggering 27 medals – our highest-ever total – and amassed 260 BUCS points, smashing previous records and cementing our reputation as one of the top athletics programmes in the country.

- Most gold medals ever won by the club at BUCS Outdoors
- Two new Championship Best Performances (CBPs) from Ben Gardiner and Tom Bridger
- A historic clean sweep of the podium in the Men’s 5000m – a first for Birmingham
- Abbie Ives secures a rare three-peat in the 800m, extending the club’s seven-year unbeaten run in the event
- First-ever wheelchair medal for the club, achieved by Nichola Charlton
- A record-breaking 260 BUCS points contributed to a third consecutive 2nd-place overall team finish

Beyond the podium finishes, Birmingham athletes achieved 53 Top 8 performances – another record for the club. Every point earned contributed to our historic BUCS tally and showcased the consistency and quality running through the entire team.
