UoB and Talent Hub Athletes selected for European Athletics Championships

We are incredibly excited to see University of Birmingham students and alumni, alongside Talent Hub athletes, selected to compete on home soil at the upcoming European Athletics Championships in Birmingham.

With the championships fast approaching, the city is preparing to welcome Europe’s best athletes for a major celebration of athletics — and for our athletes, coaches, support teams and wider Birmingham athletics community, the opportunity to be part of a major international championship on home soil is incredibly special.

To have so many athletes with strong links to the University of Birmingham and the Talent Hub selected to represent Great Britain and Northern Ireland makes the occasion even more meaningful.

Following the announcement from British Athletics confirming the team for the home European Athletics Championships, we are delighted to celebrate the selection of 12 athletes with strong links to the Birmingham Universities and Talent Hub environment, representing approximately 12% of the overall team.

The athletes selected are:

  • Georgia Hunter-Bell – 1500m (University of Birmingham Alumni)
  • Issy Boffey – 800m (University of Birmingham Alumni / Talent Hub)
  • Jake Minshull – 400m Hurdles (University of Birmingham Student / Talent Hub)
  • Kimani Jack – High Jump (University of Birmingham Alumni)
  • Kris Imroth – 3000m Steeplechase (University of Birmingham Alumni)
  • Poppy Tank – 10,000m (University of Birmingham Student / Talent Hub)
  • Will Battershill – 3000m Steeplechase (University of Birmingham Alumni / Talent Hub)

  • Alex Botterill – 800m (Talent Hub)
  • Charlotte Payne – Hammer (Talent Hub)
  • Joel Clarke-Khan – High Jump (Talent Hub)
  • Josh Faulds – 400m Hurdles (Talent Hub)
  • Sam Lunt – 400m Relay (Talent Hub)

This level of representation is a fantastic reflection of the strength of the athletics environment that has been developed across the University of Birmingham and the Talent Hub. It demonstrates the impact of creating an environment where talented athletes can develop, train, study and perform alongside high-quality coaching and support.

Huge congratulations to all of the athletes selected, and to the coaches and support teams behind them. We are incredibly proud of you all.

Bring on the home European Championships!
