Dual Career Accreditation Successfully Renewed
The University of Birmingham continues to lead the way in dual career support to high performance athletes in education, after having its TASS Dual Career Accreditation successfully renewed for the fifth year.
The TASS Dual Career Accreditation Scheme recognises and promotes an education institution’s commitment to providing comprehensive – and in some cases enhanced – dual career support for talented athletes in full-time education.
At the University of Birmingham, the TASS Dual Career Accreditation directly aligns with our objective to remain a leading destination of choice for dual career success. We are therefore incredibly proud to have retained this prestigious title for the fifth year running!
In situ, the Dual Career Accreditation continues to strengthen collaborative and advantageous partnerships amongst Academic, Executive and Performance Sport personnel at the University of Birmingham.
Not only that, but it enables those high-performance individuals supported by our sport scholarship programmes to be considered for and significantly benefit from further academic flexibility to what is already available via the UoB Extenuating Circumstances policy.
UoB TASS and EDCAP Scholar Katie Mole says:
“When I came to the University of Birmingham, I decided I was going to pursue a career in both medicine and in sport. Whilst many people asked me if it was possible, the UoB Scholarships team asked me how they could help. Their understanding of both my schedule and my goals has made a dual career feel achievable and for that I am incredibly grateful – especially as I am now just around the corner from qualifying as a doctor and have represented Great Britain along the way!
Sport Scholarships Manager Hugh Sproston says:
“The University of Birmingham is proud to have its Dual Career Accreditation renewed, reaffirming our commitment to supporting student-athletes. This accreditation underscores our role as a prime destination for athletes pursuing academic and sporting excellence.
Our student-athletes continue to excel while balancing study with performance sport, evidenced by 96.4% of our Elite Sport Scholars achieving a first-class degree or 2:1 —far above the university average.
As well as exceptional academic attainment, we are excited by the opportunity to support student-athletes towards their sporting goals over the next twelve months; a year that brings a European Athletics Championships to Birmingham and the Commonwealth Games to Glasgow, as well as a host of other international and national championships along the way.”
