New Gym Equipment and Upgrades at Sport & Fitness
At University of Birmingham Sport & Fitness we’re always striving to stay up to date with the latest fitness trends and provide a fantastic member experience. This year we’ve invested in a number of exciting upgrades and new pieces of equipment.
Read on to find out all about it, plus some top tips from our expert instructors on how to make the most of our newest additions.
New Hack Squat
The new Technogym Hack Squat, located on the lower floor of our 200+ station gym allows you to perform multiple variations of lunges and squats, with its 45-degree angle mimicking a free-weight squat whilst providing joint support.
It also offers a great version of squatting that reduces overall spinal load, making it an excellent way to grow your quads without straining your lower back!
Gym Instructor Peter says:
“It can handle a lot of lifting weight; each pin can hold 180 kilos.”
“There is a huge footplate, so there’s lots of scope to position yourself however is comfortable for you!”

Studio 2 overhaul – New Sled Track and Wall Ball Targets
Home to our ever popular Gym Group Training and Hybrid Training classes, Studio 2 has undergone an atmospheric transformation over the summer.
Upgrades include new full length mirrors, colour changing lighting and the installation of a new Sled Track, along with new wall ball targets.
The Sled Track can help target the legs, glutes, core and upper body whilst also improving endurance and explosiveness in a way that is low impact on the joints!
The wall ball targets are fitted to two of the weight racks and are popular for functional or hybrid training.
These new additions will further enhance your training sessions, making the space even more dynamic for group and solo workouts.
Even More Stair Masters
By popular demand we’ve increased the number of stair masters from six to eight. Find these in the upper floor of the gym next to the free weights area.
Now is the perfect time to level up your cardio and build your lower body strength with a targeted training session from the inbuilt Technogym app.
Kickback machine
Want an alternative to cable machine kickbacks? Mix things up with some glute isolation on the kickback machine.
Simply load the machine with your desired weight and turn up the heat on your lower body workouts. The kickback machine is also a great way to increase your hip stability.
Find all these new additions plus much more in our dual floor, 200+ station gym. Studio 2 is located on the second floor of Sport & Fitness, directly overlooking the gym.
These state of the art facilities are available exclusively to Sport & Fitness members. Don’t want to miss out on the fun? Find the perfect membership for you and join Sport & Fitness today.
